Printmaster Cataloguer v1.0
by
The Cryptic \/\/izard
Printmaster Cataloguer is in the public domain and can be distributed
freely with these restrictions:
1. No charge will be exacted by any club, organization or individual
for a copy of this program without permission.
2. The copies distributed will in no way be altered from the
original.
3. PM Cataloguer is not to be used to duplicate copyrighted graphics
for anything other than personal use.
4. Other than that, go for it!
There is really no need for extensive dox for Printmaster Cataloguer.
It was written in response to several requests for a catalogue program
similar to the one written for the 8-bit by JACS and enhanced by yours
truly. PM-CAT will print an alphabetized catalogue of any PM .SDR/.SHP
file combination (both files must exist in proper format and contain no
more than 255 graphics), seventy graphics to a page with an optional
contents page. This means that an average sized file of icons will
consume two pages of paper (three if the PRINT CONTENTS button is
highlighted). PM_CAT will read your printer configuration (like Atari's
control panel) and highlight the appropriate DOTS PER LINE button upon
initialization. Please make sure that the correct choices are selected
with these radio buttons BEFORE you select a PRINT option.
The PRINT DISK button will present you with the GEM Fileselector box from
where you need only choose a path (eg the upper edit line). Once the
names of the files you wish printed appear in the window, click on OK or
press RETURN. ALL legit PM files that reside within the path chosen will
be printed without any more baby-sitting by you. Just make sure you have
enough paper ready then go get a sandwich, a beer, or (my personal
favorite) your spouse. In about as much time as it takes you to ...
(whatever) ... you'll have a fine catalogue of your PM graphics suitable
for insertion in a ring binder for easy reference. This is likely the
first way you'll use PM_CAT.
When you obtain subsequent PM graphics files, the PRINT FILE button will
let you select just a single file for printing. Do as above, but this
time you must double click on the particular filename inside the window
of the Fileselector. Only the file you select will print then the main
button box will reappear. The VIEW FILE button works like the PRINT FILE
button, but the graphics will only be displayed on the screen and will
not be sent to the printer. Press any key when you hear the bell.
With any choice, the graphics are displayed on the screen as they are
loaded into memory. Should you see that you have accidentally chosen the
wrong file, press any key. You will then have the opportunity to abort
the print before any paper is wasted. Once printing has begun, you can
press any key to abort the print. You should note: if your printer is on
line when you make your file selection choices, PM_CAT assumes that you
are ready to print your catalogue and will begin printing without any
further prompting. If you've forgotten to set the paper, shut off the
printer or press a key before the file is fully loaded and PM_CAT will
let you straighten things out before printing begins. Otherwise, go about
your business and let PM_CAT do the busy work for you. Should you see the
"Printing file -> xxxxxx" prompt at screen bottom but your printer is NOT
responding (eg it's not on line and nothing seems to be happening), press
any key. Once the system gives control back to PM_CAT, abort the print by
clicking on the ABORT button. Pressing the CONTINUE button in this
instance yields unpredictable results. If you abort printing while doing
an entire disk, you must start over from scratch.
PM_CAT works in hi or medium rez only and, at present, it works only with
EPSON or ATARI compatible dot matrix printers. If there is enough
response or a suitable dontation is tendered, the \/\/iz will consider
writing a version that is compatible with YOUR printer. PM_CAT is
SHARE-WARE and donations are gratefully accepted. Click on the STAG icon
for the address.
The SHARE-WARE network is valuable to ST owners. Please support it!

PM_CAT is written in compiled GFA BASIC and MARK WILLIAMS C in
combination. The button box for the main menu was created using DIOXMH by
Paul Hunnington, an interesting program available for download from GEnie
(I mailed him a check today!). The STAG icon button was designed by yours
truly. Click on it for some valuable information!
